Rosebud Park has many wooded areas both within
the Golf Course and on the boundaries that interface
with residential development and Arthurs Seat State
Park. These bushlands provide valuable wildlife
corridors for fauna and are protected areas for local
flora. Waterfall Creek has its headwaters in the
foothills of Arthurs Seat and it wends its way through
the Park on the western boundary. Friends of
Waterfall Creek Bushland Reserve maintain this area
with golf course staff providing valuable back-up.
A short walk beginning at either the Rosebud Tennis
Club or the Rosebud Park entry (Rosebud Avenue)
takes ramblers through the creek and bush for a brief
escape where frogs can be heard, birds easily
observed, echidna encountered and on occasions
koala will be seen wedged into an ageing gum tree
taking in the view. Brochures describing vegetation
and characteristics of the Bushland can be collected
from boxes at the entry points.
The significance of the Bushland has been
recognised by the following organisations:
Melbourne Water -financial support for weed
control, promotions, fencing and office support for
the past five years.
|
Green Corps - removal of environmental weeds
Chisholm Institute of Tafe -developed the
interpretive trail.
Envirofund-funding for fencing.
Rosebud Park & Recreation
Committee of
Management.
Rosebud Secondary College-Planet Pals.
Friends of Waterfall Creek meet on the First Sunday
and Wednesday of each month except January.
Meeting point is the maintenance shed at the
Rosebud Tennis Club at 9am; work goes until 11am
when members get together over a well earned
cuppa and great morning tea.
New members are welcome to bring new knowledge
or to learn new skills. For those who do not wish to
work in the bush there is always equipment to be
maintained, grants to be applied for or morning tea
to be prepared.
